Merry Christmas from 1L!

We learnt the Christmas song 'When Santa Got Stuck Up A Chimney' in Makaton and wanted to share it with you all. Merry Christmas to all of our lovely families!

Stay safe over Christmas and we can't wait to see you in 2021!

Hello 1L!

Welcome to our class webpage for the autumn term. Take a look at all of the exciting things we have been doing this term...

Maths

We have covered a range of topics in Maths but one of our favourite lessons was when we set up a toy shop in the classroom and used our coins to pay for the toys we wanted! We needed to be able to read prices and add coins to 20p together. Some of us worked in mixed ability groups to encourage language acquisition and develop our speaking/oracy skills.

Talk For Writing

This term we have been reading the stories 'Kipper's Toybox' and 'Stanley's Stick' which we have enjoyed very much. In our talk for writing lessons, we practice retelling the story again and again to develop our langauge and help us to structure our sentences before we write. Take a look at some of the story maps we have drawn in chalk on the playground...

Topic

Our topic for this half term has been Castles and Knights! For this topic we built a time machine and have been receiving letters and gifts from King Richard the Lionheart! He needs our help to run his kingdom. One of the first things he asked us to do was to design a strong castle to protect his people. We spent lots of time looking at the features of castles including battlements, turrets, portcullis', moats and drawbridges. We then designed and built our castles for King Richard - take a look below!

Parents, below I have uploaded both the class newsletter for this term and the powerpoint presentation I went through in our virtual parents meeting. Please take a look if you were unable to attend.
