Maths

During the first half-term, we have been focusing on calculation methods - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.   In addition to developing fluency in each of these areas, we are developing Mastery skills, working through more open-ended challenges and reasoning tasks.

 

Each day  we start with Maths Training; the children talking about the calculations methods they have used; reasoning which method is 'best' and reflecting on their mathematical thinking.  We have some great mathematical thinkers!

 

During the half term, we have covered:

 

• formal addition
• formal subtraction methods
• formal multiplication
• using 'BIDMAS' and exploring the order of multi operations
• formal short division
• formal long division
• adding and subtracting fractions, improper fractions and mixed numbers
• multiplying and dividing fractions, improper fractions and mixed number

 

It has been an exhausting half-term, but the children have risen to the challenge!
