Mantle of the Expert

This is a particular approach to learning where children take on the ‘Mantle of the Expert’ through role play and drama. This means in a topic on Airports they will become the Tour Company and plan visits, cost them write about the places to stay and deal with conflicts as they are introduced. It is a powerful means of engaging the children who respond to ‘real-life’ scenarios. Another Chocolate Unit from the IPC was enriched by this approach when the children had to look at the implications of a Chocolate Factory being planned for one of Ipswich’s favourite parks.
