Chocolate Box Challenge

During SATS week, the Year 5 children took on the Chocolate Box Challenge! The challenge was to make a replica of a chocolate box. The children worked in pairs (or threes) so there was lots and lots of mathematical talking! They were not allowed to use any standard measuring when visiting the chocolate boxes - again mathematical talk was high! Once they had discussed the estimated measurements, they moved onto creating accurate nets and making a prototype. Adjustments were made continually, using their mathematical thinking. The judging took place on Wednesday 22nd May 2019 by Mrs Blake and Mrs Caston. Results to follow so watch this space ...

The Challenge

Hockey Festival at The Ipswich High School

We were invited to a Hockey Festival at the Ipswich High School on Tuesday 21st May. A whole morning of hockey skills and matches - it was fantastic! The children were coached by Olympians who were really impressed by our sporting skills and attitude to new challenges. Hopefully, in years to come we will see Handford Hall pupils in the Olympics!
