English

So far this half term in year 4, we have been been both authors and poets!

Story writing

We have read a range of Horrid Henry stories and even written our own disaster story using alliterative names.

4M had fun deciding what alliterative names we would choose for ourselves and of course, the children chose 'Marvelous McCandless' for my character!

See below for some of our work towards our Horrid Henry style stories.

Poetry

We have also become poets in our English lessons. We created poems about one of the main characters of our class reading book. See if you can guess what it is! Here are some clues! (Don't tell your adults!)

  • There are 4 main children in it.
  • The season in which the story is set is winter (but never Christmas).
  • There are talking animals in this story.
  • And finally, if you still dont know...you may be turned into stone!

4M built their knowledge of simile and metaphor to make there imagery poems really stand out.

They worked as hard as beavers!

(Simile or Metaphor? Why?)

Which are examples of onomatopoeia?

  • Boom!
  • Crash!
  • Shaplow!
  • Zip!
  • Splash!
  • Drip!
