French

English

Il pleut.

Il fait beau.

Il fait chaud.

Il fait froid.

Il neige.

Il fait du vent.

Il fait du soleil.

It rains / It’s raining.

It’s fine.

It’s hot.

It’s cold.

It snows / It's snowing.

It’s windy.

It’s sunny.

We can use this vocabulary to describe what the weather is like at different times of the year.

For example:

En janvier, il neige.

In January, it snows.

Remember that en means in when we are talking about times of the year.

Also remember:

  • Words for months in French do not begin with a capital.
  • Words for months in English do begin with a capital.

Choose either activity (a) or (b)

(a) Translate the French sentences into English.

En mars, il fait du vent.

En juillet, il fait chaud.

En décembre, il fait froid.

En mai, il fait beau.

En avril, il pleut.

Then write some sentences of your own to describe the weather during different months of the year.

(b) Make a poster in French to describe the weather in the different months of the year, using the sentence structure above.
